Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral for Speech Pathology services.

How do I know if my child needs Speech Pathology?

If you or anyone involved in your child’s care has raised concerns regarding your child’s communication development or reaching developmental milestones, it is recommended that you get in contact with a Speech Pathologist to discuss your concerns.

Your child may have difficulty any with the following:

  • Producing sounds or words clearly

  • Telling stories

  • Understanding and following instructions

  • Using correct grammar

  • Using correct sentence structure/formulating sentences

  • Stuttering or fluency

  • Late to start talking

  • Reading and/or spelling

  • Attention, memory or problem solving

  • Difficulty forming/maintaining friendships

Can I claim sessions on Medicare?

Members of Speak & Develop Speech Pathology are registered with Medicare Australia. Depending on the nature of your child’s difficulties, your GP may provide you with a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM) item 135. You are able to claim up to 5 sessions per year with Medicare. Please check your child’s eligibility with your GP.

Can I claim sessions on my private health fund?

Please consult your private health insurance provider to discuss your specific level of cover and entitlements as it varies between each fund.

Do you support NDIS funded participants?

Yes, we support plan-managed and self-managed NDIS participants.
